Karen Majesky, founder of Spark Tutoring LLC, provides highly personalized, one-on-one academic support tailored to the needs and strengths of each student and designed to place them on the path toward academic success. With more than 16 years of experience educating students in the Boulder area, Karen has taught students with a wide range of needs, abilities, and learning backgrounds, ranging from kindergarten through high-school-aged students.
Karen has special expertise in helping those with phonemic awareness difficulties, dyslexia, specific language-based disabilities in writing and spelling, math difficulties, and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
Spark Tutoring provides public, private and homeschooled students with foundational reading, writing, and math skills. Karen’s interactive and engaging approach aims to help students develop a tool bag of strategies that enable them to problem-solve in areas of struggle, work independently, and challenge themselves to grow beyond their existing skill levels.
She addresses students’ learning needs from a place of understanding, engendering trust and creating a relationship within which students can feel comfortable exploring their academic difficulties. Rewarding children for their hard work and effort helps them create a positive mindset, which enables them to become receptive to increasingly difficult goals and take on new academic challenges with enthusiasm.
Karen encourages her students to think in new ways, question their answers, and view mistakes as positive growth experiences. She believes that mistakes are amazing learning opportunities that lead to beautiful changes. When children are allowed to discuss their errors without being judged, their entire learning process is transformed.
Karen takes great joy in helping her students acquire the confidence and skills they need to become independent learners, and she has seen countless students develop the kind of focused, connected, and energized relationship with their own minds that allows them to soar.
Reading
Strong phonological skills are the cornerstone of proficient reading. The ability to decode, or sound out words, forms the basis for learning to read and understand text.
Math
Spark Tutoring strives to help children overcome their fear of learning math by building confidence and self-efficacy, providing the skills and strategies to master multiplication, fractions and pre-algebra.
Writing
Karen helps children express their own voices by strengthening their basic writing foundations and helping them develop more advanced writing techniques.
